Thumbs down It's Official: Xbox 360 Elite:No PCM 5.1

Just got an email back from Xbox support:
"Hi, John!

Thank you for writing Xbox Customer Support!

I deeply apologize for the inconvenience and as I understand, you have some questions regarding the Xbox 360 Elite and the audio format that it supports.

Xbox 360 supports 5.1 multichannel surround sound, what the vast majority can support today. There is currently not enough consumer demand, content or support by other CE devices to support Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD.

Audio formats that Xbox 360 Elite can play:

The following audio formats can encode on Xbox 360 Elite:

Stereo PCM(2 Channel), 16-bit, 48 kilohertz (kHz)

Dolby Digital 5.1 channel digital audio, 48kHz

The following sound formats can pass-through Xbox 360 Elite:

Dolby Digital 5.1 channel digital audio, 48kHz

THX 5.1 channel digital audio, 48kHz

WMA Pro

For further assistance, please don't hesitate to write back or call Xbox Phone Support at 1-800-4MYXBOX or 1-800-469-9269 ( United States and Canada ); or 425-635-7180 (International/direct dial to the US ) at your earliest convenience. We are open everyday 9am-1am EST/6am-10pm PST.

To expedite service, please provide Service Request Number 1033194123 when you call.

Good News! You may link your console to your Windows Live ID, and check repair status online at the web site: http://service.xbox.com.

Sincerely,

Jenny

Xbox Customer Care Team"
I'm deeply disappointed in you Microsoft, I was prepared to shell out $480 for ANOTHER Xbox and yet PCM 5.1 is not included, this is such an easy thing to do, yet Microsoft is committed to cutting corners yet again.
BTW, does anybody know of any movies that use THX 5.1? I've never heard of that audio format before?

Um Star Wars uses THX 5.1.

Also didn't you say it would be possible to do a firmware update for PCM5.1 in another thread??

Yes, but Microsoft is apparently not investing the time to make a firmware update, they are just using the cheap 2.0 PCM. Also, Star Wars uses Dolby Digital EX, not THX. It is THX certified for A/V

Why Microsoft, Why? I bet Microsoft will make another 360 sooner or later with HDMI 1.3, and milk us for another $500

why? do you have to buy everything they make? i don't get it. my 360 plays games and sounds great as it is. just go get a stand alone player. then you'll have the best of both worlds.
