Default It's official: Xbox 360 Elite, HDMI 1.2

I just got an email back from Xbox support team:
"Thank you for writing Xbox Customer Support!

I do apologize for any inconvenience in regards with your question about the Xbox 360 Elite, and if it will support the HDMI 1.3 and PCM 5.1. Xbox 360 Elite supports HDMI 1.2 and 5.1 multichannel surround sound. Most of our customers currently use this system. Currently, there is not enough consumer demand, content, or support by other CE devices to support Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD.

For further assistance, please don't hesitate to write back or call Xbox Phone Support at 1-800-4MYXBOX (1-800-469-9269) at your earliest convenience. We are open everyday from 9am to 12mn Central Time.

For more information about Xbox360, please visit http://www.xbox.com or http://www.xbox.com/360.

Sincerely,

Jam

Xbox Customer Care Team"

So apparently future-proofing on not on MS's priority list. I hate when companies decide to use the "lack of demand" excuse. If it was possible (and PS3 did it), why the hell not?! What a bunch of sh*t.

I received the same responce from MS. I think this is a canned responce... because it's almost word for word...

I don't understand why they made a console with 'outdated technology'... and why, when given the chance, they are not really fixing the problem!

If you were thinking about getting an Xbox Elite just for the HDMI connection, Sherwood Newcastle has an analog to HDMI adapter. It looks like a DVD player (in size... I think) and it will upconvert the component signal to HDMI... but it still only accepts a 1080i signal over component.

You can find them HERE.

Well no 1.3 HDMI recievers are out there, yet. I mean I just plopped down 500 bucks on a HDMI reciever thinking it has it I'm set. As I have read around that's not the case. I can take it back, but I don't have another 500 or whatever laying around to pick up something new.

And don't forget, the HDMI is for the X360 as a game console, not so much for the HD DVD drive.

This might be a sign that the HD DVD format is failing, since the 360 itself can only do games and dvds, which only support DD. Because right now the only use for HDMI 1.3 would be the Dolby TrueHD for HD DVDs. It wouldn't make sense for Microsoft to include the HDMI 1.3 if HD DVD fails because there would be no other use for 1.3, since 1.2 can do DD and 1080p.

But MS isn't throwing all of their chips into HD DVD, yes they support it and gave the option of a HD DVD add on. But not including HDMI1.3 when as you have said in other threads no AVR's have it....yet. Without looking at the install base of just the add on. What would be the point of adding it in to the elite if only a few thousand or so have the add on. I think everyone here wants HDMI1.3 cause they have the add on. Not so much for the games since non of the games use HD audio, just HD video.

IF the HD DVD as installed in the system itself, and didnt have the HDMI1.3 I think everyone would deffinatly have a right to be pissed.

that is my point, because had HD DVD been leading in sales, it would be likely that Microsoft would include the 1.3 and market it as buying a game console and hd dvd player. But since hd dvd is being outsold by blu-ray, it seems that microsoft may know something we don't know about the future of hd dvd?????
