Thumbs down 360 Elite will NOT support HDMI 1.3

It looks like everyone banking on getting TrueHD and DD+ output from the new 360 elite is out of luck. According to engadget, the console will only support HDMI 1.2, and will also be limited to 2.1 channel PCM. Thus, DD, DD WMA Pro and DTS will be the only output options for the console and add-on.

So basically there is no way to get high-def audio out of this thing. So if audio was your only reason for buying it, you might as well stick with the current 360.

(btw I posted this in a separate thread for attention purposes. If a mod wants to merge it into the 360 elite thread after a few days that's fine)

I find it very stupid that Microsoft did not see HDMI 1.3 as a standard to put if they were going to make a new 360 SKU. Very dissapointing and stupid... :|

I was planning on getting the Elite for 1080p, PCM, THD, Etc. but after this news I will keep my premium. I just purchased the A2 for $399 and got 9 HD-DVD's free from Circuit. The best deal since sliced bread. New HD audio formats hear I come. I have been more of a BD supporter because of audio support that the PS3 gives but now it's time to start taking the red pill. Now I just need to get some monoblock amps for my fronts and center channel.

Microsoft has yet to officially announce that the Xbox 360 Elite will only support HDMI 1.2, this is all rumors. Until I see it on the official Xbox.com website, I will be keeping my hopes up for HDMI 1.3. "Xbox 360™ Elite is the newest addition to the Xbox family that includes a huge 120GB hard drive the largest available for any gaming console, a high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) cable, and a premium black finish. The Xbox 360 Elite also includes a black wireless controller and black Xbox Live® headset." From: xbox.com/en-US/hardware/xbox360elite/default.htm?WText.camp=TS1-Xbox360Elite&WText.campSrc=Home[/url]

Amir has already said its 1.2. Not sure why people are bent out of shape over this. This is a gaming machine for the most part and are only putting HDMI in it since many people have problems where their tvs not accepting 1080p over component. Standard audio in games is Dolby Digital. If you want the best sound for HD DVD just buy a stand alone which is cheaper than buying an Elite.

More expensive is the point. If I'm paying more for an upgraded 360 I expect the newest features and the latest version of HDMI, not something that is inferior to a cheaper HD DVD player. If the PS3 does 1.3 I see no reason for the 360 to leave it out. Pure BS. The least they could have done is enabled 5.1 PCM, which is possible with 1.2 anyway.

5.1 PCM is already supported on HDMI 1.1, so i dont know why they shouldn't support it

There are plenty of 1.2 recievers on the market. I have one. Well I still enjoy PCM 5.1 uncompressed audio through my PS3. Once you go uncompressed you can't look back!
