Default 360 power supply whining

The power supply for my 360 is making an annoying whining sound. It stops as soon as the machine is turned on, so it's making the sound whenever it's turned off. Anyone know what I should do?

Try unplugging it from your system and the outlet and wait for the red light to turn off. Plug it back in and see if there's any difference.

Do you hear the hard drive spinning at all? If so, you might want to see if turning off Background Downloading does the trick.

Good idea, I do have background downloading enabled, but I don't have anything currently being downloaded so that can't be it. The whining is coming from the power brick not the console itself.

Sort of sounds like a bad capacitor. Just a guess as I am not an engineer. Is it under warranty by any chance? Sooner or later, if it is a bad cap, it will fail, possibly sending a voltage spike to your 360, which is a worst case scenario, and probably rare, but not a good one.
