Streaming Media from a External Drive that's connected to a PC; to an Xbox 360

Hey I was wondering if it was possible to Stream Videos from an External Drive that's connected to my PC to my xbox 360. I have a WD 500GB mybook that I would like to use since my actual PC hdd is not very big. Let me know if there's any solutions to do this.

I wouldn't think that would be a problem... as long as your PC reads it then your XBox 360 should find it via media connect. If I plug a flash card into the reader on the PC the 360 picks it up... same should work for EHD.

hey UMNxboxEDU, I currently have a 500GB MyBook drive attached to my main PC with all my media so I can stream it to the 360.

Make sure you have WMP 11 (I believe thats the version I have) and that you have your 360 as a device that can access your shared media thru WMP 11. And to do is it's under Library > Media Sharing and make sure you see your 360 there.

And to see all your files on the 360 make sure you have added the external drive on WMP 11 via Library > Add to Library...

I hope that helps. If you have any question please feel free to ask and I will help you.

Yes you can stream it to your 360 with an external hard drive. Also if you want some software thats better than Media Player to stream, try TVersity.

What is the OS you have? If you are running XP Media center or better yet, Vista Home Premium then this is a sinch and probably the best way to go as you can then stream live TV, recorded TV, DVDs copied to DVRMS files and so on, all via the media center interface which is pretty cool.

I do this throughout my house on Vista Home Premium with Dual Digital cards via 3 Xbox360's and works like a charm. I cannot however vouch for TVersity as I have not used it nor needed to.

Sweet (XP Media Centre 2005). I assume they are on the same network? Just go to Xbox dashboard and choose Media Center to make the connection and the rest should step you through though check out the links below before doing so..

Here's the link at MS http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/m...r/default.mspx

you may aslo need the update rollup 2 to make it happen as well..
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/m.../whatshot.mspx

Also, check out http://www.mymovies.dk/ as this is one of the best add-ons for your XP machine and will alloow you to view your movies the best possible way without touching a disc again. You will need a few other applications like Anydvd, DVD Shrink and VideoReDo Plus (which will help you convert to MS DVRMS - which is what the Xbox needs to play the file)

All the best with it.
