Exclamation 360 Update to support 1080P!?!?

I can't read this, but apparently it has been translated and posted on another website that a new update about to be released gives new functionality to the 360. Not only will it give the 360 1080P support, but also streaming WMV support and WMV files off of various optical formats including a USB memory stick!

**RUMOR** for now, until anyone can confirm this by translation!

I heard that it may even support divx - although just a rumour! It would be great if it did, I could finally ditch XBMC.

I don't take this so much as a rumor though. The update is supposed to hit today! Allegedly, it will change the look of XBLM as well.

Today? I suppose it has to hit before the HD-DVD add-on hits, so it needs to be released in the next week or so. Will keep an eye out!

Nice! It would be great to finally be able to play video files directly rather than having to stream them over ethernet. The question is will it play WMV HD files? Something tells me it probably will if it supports the format in the first place

***here is a small article from teamXbox about the update

Okay, I can speak for the 1080p support. Games can now be upconverted or native 1080p. It's up to developers what they want to support. HD-DVD will be in 1080p over VGA and 1080i over component. DVDs will be upconverted to 1080p over VGA and 480p over component.

I can't speak for the WMV support, it's the first I've heard of it. The 360 already supports WMVs if you have a Media Center PC. I'm really not buying the Divx rumors at all because of the fact that Divx is a hack of Microsoft's own interpretation of MPEG4 so I really doubt it.

There has been no official word on a date for the update. It's been speculated that the update will be pushed tomorrow because several places have listed the ship date of the wireless headset for tomorrow and you need the update for that to even function. So... it *could* be happening. EDIT: It is tomorrow!

Excellent - didn't realise it was happening so sign. So I imagine from tomorrow we'll be able to upscale dvd's using VGA?

I would think so. I can't see why that would be dependent on the HD-DVD drive. I can't read the release notes until I get home, but I'd imagine it would be stated here.

I can't see anything specifically about SD-DVD upscaling, I thought this could be done without the HD-DVD.

Maybe they've just vaguely included it under 'HD 1080p video mode support over VGA and component cables'.

I have a brand new 1080P tv and it doesnt accept 1080P over VGA and I dont think it does over component either.
