Default Is the 360 quiet yet?

I've got two Pro model 360's. One I sent to microsoft after the RROD and the other I bought while I was waiting for the old one to come back. The new one is loud. I bought it 6 months ago. The old one is about as quiet as my PS3. I'm thinking of getting an Elite if it is quieter. I heard rumors of a new chipset?

Is it time to trade in my loud one?

I personally don't know what the fuss is about. My Elite is just fine. I bought it back in June. No RROD or other problems. I really enjoy my 360. After a hard day of work at the construction site, I put my jackhammer away, drink a cold beer and play Halo 3.

it's not a new chipset, it's faster 65nm fans with the elite and with some premium consoles. The faster 65nm fans means less of a chance with the RROD

after my fourth 360, i will say this, i do have a new motherboard don't know if its the 65nm, the halo3 and later 360 premimums have this.

Mine however is very quiet and on par with my ps3, its not as quiet as the wii.

Let me ask you this, if you have surround sound you probably wouldn't hear the noise from the 360.

Faster fans would make the console louder. What was added to the consoles was a redesigned cooling system that included larger heat sinks and a heat pipe. The smaller chips also help in making the console run cooler because they produce less heat.

I have surround sound (see my sig.) I don't notice it when I'm playing loud games like Halo but when I play games that require more stealth I hear the drive whirring away.

I am very happy with my new 360 Elite it is the Falcon and very quiet. there is a night and day difference between my new 360 and my old 360. Just make sure you get a Falcon , though most new ones now should be a Falcon but, there are still some old boards floating around.
Heres what to look for,.... make sure its Lot #0740 or higher or some new Falcons have a 175 watt PSU that was replaced with the old 203 watt PSU, just check the white lable on the side of the box.
I have also noticed that all Team TMEM & Team FDOU are Falcons with Lot # 740 or higher and have been super quiet.
Here is a thread I did to check out if you got a Falcon or not.

I just received a 36o Elite for xmas and it is very loud. If this is very quiet I'd hate to have an older model. Maybe I got an older version that had been on the shelf or recycled my MS.
