Default Question on 360 output 1080p via Component

Hi, just curious if all or just newer models of XBox 360 output 1080p via component?
I have a XBox 360 I got X-mas '06 and just got a new 1080p HDTV and thinking of buying a HD player add on if I can get 1080p without the Elite/HDMI model.

Thanks in advance.

only models with an hdmi output can put out true 1080p resolution. all the other outputs are analog signals.

Not true. The 360 can output 1080p via component if your television accepts it. You should check the owner's manual to see if it specifies. Also, if you switch to using a VGA connection, instead of component, you can output to 1080p.

While this statement is true, you must note that if you buy the HD-DVD AO for the 360 and use component all you are going to get is a 1080i output even if your TV accepts a 1080P signal over component.

Thanks for the clarification. I was assuming that he was stating the 360 was incapable of outputting 1080p. I hadn't considered the Add-on's limitation due to AACS.

As stated, VGA is the only way to get 1080p besides HDMI. VGA is also the only way to get standard DVDs upconverted (besides HDMI).

I would say get the MS brand ones though, I've tried 3rd party and they nowhere close to the same quality.

Here is an article which should make it as clear as possible:
Quote:
VGA:

* HD DVD - 1080p resolution and all others
* DVD - Upscaled as high as 1080p resolution and all others
* Games - 720p games upscaled to 1080p, also supports native-1080p games in the future

Component:

* HD DVD - 1080i resolution maximum, limited by AACS
* DVD - Upscaled to 480p maximum, limited by CSS
* Games - 720p games upscaled to 1080p, also supports native-1080p games in the future

That pretty much answers my question.
I have both MS Component AND VGA cable for my 360. I currently have it connected to my LCD PC monitor via the VGA and have been very happy. Just rechecked settings and see after the many months of updates to it, it does have a 1920 resolution to select from (via VGA cable).

Cool. Just needed to know if I got the HD-DVD Drive for my 360 if I could in any way get 1080p without HDMI. My Tv loves 1080p sources.
Guess I can....SWEET!

It's worth getting a VGA cable as well as the component, and give them both a road test.
On my tv, the vga cable gives me a sharper picture, while the component has less detail, but better contrast levels.
