Default New Gamerscore Policy

This was posted today on the Gamerscore blog. It talks about new rules that games will have to adhere by going forward when it comes to how they implement Gamerscore points into their games.

Quote:
1. All regular disc-based games MUST have 1,000 Gamerscore in the base game. This means that any consumer who buys a retail game will have the opportunity to unlock the full 1,000 Gamerscore without having to pay for any add-on content. Note that a publisher may decide to deliver a portion of this Gamerscore via add-on content, but the add-on content will always be free to the consumer.

2. Game publishers will have the option to deliver another 250 incremental Gamerscore on top of the 1,000 via add-on content from Marketplace. This add-on content could be either free or paid. So if you complete a game and earn the full 1,000 GS, you could by getting new add-on content earn up to a total of 1,250 points from a game.

3. Xbox Live Arcade games will operate in similar fashion, but given the size of these titles they will allow you to earn up to 200 Gamerscore from every game and up to another 50 points from add-on content.

At first I didn't think this was needed, however then I heard about a "game" in Japan called Aquazone. In it, you can only unlock 480 points with the base game. To get an additional 400 points you have to fork over 5000 MS points to download content on Marketplace. What a crock!!!!

Good idea. I'm not obsessed about gamerpoints myself - I only have around 300 or so. I still find it odd that people will get some games just to rack up their gamer scores!

You mean like the EA Sports games when the system launched? You could earn an achievement just by making a touchdown or stealing the ball. I've heard that King Kong is an easy 1000 points.

I think it was the developers at Bethesda that said they wished they could of added additional achievements with the Knights of the Nine download for Oblivion due to how much was added to the game from it. I'm sure they'll like this news.

Yes, hopefully the next Oblivion downloadable expansion will give us some Gamerscore love.

Only 300 points, Tejstar? Don't play much, do you?

Then again, I used to play a lot.

Hi, my name is L and I'm a gamerscore whore.

This might actually get me to buy some downloadable content. I would've bought the Oblivion packs if there was extra points for them.

Not as much as I used to. Also, being married and having to work takes up more time. We are expecting our first child at the end of the month so that probably means even less time!

I'm also playing a lot of PS2 and PC games right now (part of the problem of owning too many consoles is that there is never enough time!)

5000 points for the Aquazone, isn't that nearly $100 after tax? That's terrible...
