Default Xbox 360 HD DVD drive UK release?

I haven't read anything about the add-on drive for release in markets outside the US. Is this thing coming or are they making us wait like Sony?

Anyone have any new info?

Looks like I found my answer at DVD Times.

Sounds like good value!

Yep, already have my pre-order in. Amazon were taking pre-orders recently but have since stopped due to excessive demand I imagine.

However, sendit.com and pcworld are still taking pre-orders!

Great! I'm probably going to hold my horses a bit.. my 360 was US-bought, but it'd be an interesting experiment!

It will indeed. I'm probably going to buy the add-on and also a standalone European player. I'll be very interested to see how both of them compare pq wise.

My main concern is noise. My 360 is noisy, so I'd only use it as my second player. My HD-A1 is not, despite all the scare stories. Maybe I've been lucky with the HD-A1 but not the 360?

But the firmware hack on the 360 a while back fixed the DVD playback, if you try sing it now it is very quiet!

So question time everybody...

My 360 was born and raised in the US, so I figure the internal DVD drive is region-locked to region 1. HD DVD isn't currently region coded. So if I buy the add-on in the UK, will the add-on allow playback of region 2 DVDs? Or do I have to be the guinea pig?

Anybody with any clues or insider info?!?

If its like the stand alone players, only the HD DVDs are region free. Playback of SD DVDs are still region enabled. Sorry!
