Default TV help for a very confused person

Ok, i have this tv: HP 42" PL4260n
i was thinking of buying this one: Hitachi P42H401, the one that is on sale for 979 at CC right now.

so, will the hitachi one look better because of the increased resolution? I am only using it for xbox 360 and hd dvd's. I do watch tv, but it is the most basic cable money can buy, so i dont care about that.
I am confused because the salesperson told me that the picture quality wouldn't be any different. But, with the increased resolution numbers, doesn't that mean that i will get a TRUE 1080i signaL instead a 768P??

I Hope you will help, because no one on the CNET forums answered me...

Although it does have a little more resolution, it's going to be a marginal difference at best. Reason being is that it's still a 720p/1080i set and not a 1080p television. As the Hitachi's given resolution is 1080 x 1080, and 1080p is 1920 x 1080. It's an odd choice that causes much customer confusion, especially with a the big 1080 sticker on it's bezel. Notice that the "P" is absent. I'd say it's a marketing gimmick more than anything.

Hey I just bought the Hitachi P42H401 yesterday at SEARS to replace my samsung 40" 720p LCD and I will say the picture quality of the Hitachi is amazing I have my ps3 hooked up to it and playing BD's I notice the picture is a definate improvement over the Samsung. I would definately recommend this Hitachi I am very pleased and the best part is my final cost was $764.00. I would rate it a 4.7 out of 5. Hope this helps good luck
