Ha, and I've just read somewhere else where they denied it.

I'll wait for the official press release.

More fuel to the fire from MS apologist Paul Thurott

From EngadgetHD

Quote:
According to a pre-CES briefing that Windows expert Paul Thurrott received from his Microsoft pals, the big M will be coming out with a new version of the Xbox 360 (Zephyer?) at the end of 2007, which will feature a larger HDD and some new hardware to enable that IPTV functionality Robbie Bach was talking about during the Microsoft CES keynote. It also stands to reason that such a Xbox 360 might be sporting a fancy new HDMI port and perhaps run just a wee bit cooler -- meaning HDCP and less fan noise, natural fits for home theater use. It still seems a bit unreasonable for Microsoft, which has been bragging about its 10 million strong installed base, to leave those early adopters out in the cold, but if that's the way it goes down we can't say we won't welcome the excuse to ditch the fan and disc drive hullabaloo of our current gen box.

IPTV will probably be avalible in a firmware update. HDMI would be nice though.

I was listening to the Major Nelson podcast last night. He was talking to BigVIP about IPTV and he said that the hard drive would only be required if the service provider wanted to provide DVR. Otherwise a core system would work just fine. (No memory card needed.) BigVIP also mentioned that there's an upgrade path for current 360 users so I'm guessing that's the firmware update.

On an aside, BigVIP mentioned that in theory there's enough IPTV bandwidth and the Xbox360 is powerful enough to record up to 4 shows at once! How sweet would that be? He did say though that something like that would depend again on the feature set the IPTV provided would want to give to their customers.

Thats the problem i think with the 360 now for movies, is that its too loud. For video games its great. If this thing came out with HDMI and was as quiet as the PS3, with some kind of HD DVD or BD player, i would get one quickly.

So they say late 2007, thats a while we will see.
