Default Microsoft confirms HDMI port on Xbox 360 Premium

Quote:
Microsoft has confirmed the addition of HDMI ports to all newly manufactured Xbox 360 premium consoles. "Yes, we are offering an HDMI port for Xbox 360 simply as another choice in Xbox 360 owners' games and entertainment experience," a Microsoft rep told Shacknews in an e-mailed statement. "Retailers are gradually introducing HDMI-enabled Xbox 360s into the channel to meet demand."

Regarding the possibility of an HDMI output on the $279.99 SKU, the Microsoft rep said, "We have not announced any plans to add HDMI to the Xbox 360 Core System." Microsoft would not reveal whether any other additions had been made to newly available Xbox 360 models, such as the inclusion of a 65nm process. "We are constantly updating the console's more than 1700 internal components and therefore will not comment on details of specific components or manufacturing processes," the rep added.

The ones with HDMI are lot #0726 and are manufactured after 7/4/07. They also are supposed to say something on the box but I haven't seen pics yet.

Sadly, I dont think it will mean the ability to pass through TrueHD as I think its a hardware issue for the 360. The addition of the HDMI prot I think s jsut to appease the users who dont want to get the Elite, but TVs still need the HDMI port for HD viewing

You guys can all call me crazy, but I really think Microsoft will come out with another version of the 360 and I bet it will have the internal HD-DVD and HDMI 1.3a. I know microsoft says users have a choice if they wanna get the HD-DVD or not, but purchasers still have a choice if they want an XBOX with hd dvd in it or not.

So even if I have the HD-DVD Player you dont think it will be able to do HD-Audio with the HDMI port? I thought the reason I could not get HD-Audio before was I did not have HDMI output.

Microsoft is really starting to piss me off. First they said they didn't want to use HDMI. Then they decided they did. So they released the Elite for $479. Then they drop all the prices by about $50. Now they are releasing the premiums with HDMI. I don't want a game system that isn't finnished, and costs me $300 to $400 dollars everytime they have to update hardware, because they screwed around and didn't do what they should have done to start with. The PS3 may not have many games, and cost $500-$600 dollars, but once you figure what you spend buying a new X-Box every single they update one little piece of hardware it is not near as expensive as the PS3. For me to get HDMI, I would have to trade in my X-Box. It cost me $400 dollars new. Trade in value is about $250 or less. I would be losing $150 dollars for the trade, and still have to fork over another $179. Then if I didn't have the add-on HD-DVD player and wanted to have Hd-DVD I would have to go out and spend another $179 to get HD-DVD. That is just stupid. I am not buying another 360. I don't care what they do to it. I will not own another 360.

Would you rather them just not have updated the system and left HDMI off forever. It's not needed so you can't really be too mad at them. I am glad the new systems have it for the future. If the UPC is unchanged you can buy a new one at Wal-mart and return yours in it's original box.. They don't scan the serial number when you buy it.
