Default HD-DVD vs HD Marketplace

Has anyone had an opportunity to compare a HD-DVD version of a movie with HD movies rented via Marketplace. I'd be curious in how they compare at 1080i. I noticed TMNT is available on Marketplace in HD - day and date with the DVD/HD-DVD release in stores.

I rented Swordfish (one of the first movies on the service) and managed to borrow a relative's HD DVD copy and I honestly couldn't tell much difference. Could be because my TV can only do 1080i and/or I think the 360 scales 720p video to 1080i anyway, right? All I know is that it looked better than DVD/480p quality and considering the movie, that was good enough for me.

Otherwise, I haven't bothered to compare a movie on XBLM to HD DVD because if I own the movie, I'm not going to rent it, and if I only want to rent it, I'm probably not going to buy it.

Yeah Marketplace does 720P I believe, but I have a Plasma and the HD drive is also only showing in 720P so it's pretty much the same. Was just curious how they compared for someone that has seen both of the same movie (which isn't likely I realize)

I have a 1080p 61" Samsung and I've rented a couple movies on the marketplace for comparison, and to me there was no question that BD and HD have a better picture over them... Even at 1080i you should see a difference mainly because of the compression the downloads are put through...

How about for Audio? Same compression issues as video?

Only certain titles are in 5.1 audio unless is states 5.1, it's only stereo. I have downloaded a few, and they do look pretty good. But, I have only downloaded movies that I didn't plan to buy. Like TMNT. The 480p format looks pretty good too, for the newer movies, and at 1/3-1/4 the disc space, I prefer to download those ones.
