Eh. I just saw this was posted in the HD DVD vs. Blu-Ray smackdown forum.

Well I should get bonus points for putting it in the right place I suppose.

These are estimates. I expect all to be a little lower. I'm still impressed at the 360 selling like that at $400.

But a killer games lineup and the best online service out there helps with that.

This trend came up in a different thread, and I think it's useful to remember that both the 360 and Wii sold large numbers because there were actually large numbers of consoles on shelves to be bought...

That's quite impressive for the PS3, especially since there was only meant to be 200-300k units on launch! Looks like they kept the supply lines healthy since launch.

Hmm they prommissed 4 million by end of year.. then 2 million.. then 1 million and they only shipped 750k... You call that impressive?

Exactly, I don't think there's anyway you can call the PS3 launch a success. I think the biggest winner is the Wii. Tons of games, lots of consoles made/sold, solid demand. You can't see that about the PS3, especially when I saw about 15 60GB models on the shelf yesterday @ Best Buy.

I think you are getting confused. Sony promised 4m units by the end of its fiscal year (March 2007), globally.

The stats above only include North America and only sales between 1st Nov-Dec 25th. I think it is impressive, especially with the European launch still to come.

Incorrect.

They said by the end of the calender year.

"We are still on schedule to ship 2 million units for our mid-November 2006 launch and additional 2 million units by the end of the year for a total of 4 million units."

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=19163

"Not only that, but Sony may meet its projection of having 2 million PS3s shipped worldwide by the end of 2006 and 6 million worldwide by March 2007, when the console is scheduled to launch in Europe."
