Default quick question

Okay...Im confused. Ive got an xbox 360, and I was under the impression that Component Cables (Blue, Green, Red) were superior to VGA cables to use on your HDTV. I saw 2 different people on another forum say that VGA cables were the way to go with the new HDDVD drive for the 360. So...which is it?

Component supports: 1080p/i 720p 480p/i
VGA supports: 720p, 480p (as far as TV standards go), then a slew of monitor resolutions including the actual resolution of most plasma TVs. You get DVDs upconverted over VGA, but it seems to cap resolution lower and you may get placement (image size/position on screen) issues.

People have said that it supports 1080i/p but every thing I've been able to find when I look says that it doesn't. So what's the resolution and size of your TV?

Im extremely happy with the HDDVD addon for my 360 with the blue green and red component cables, but, didnt know if the VGA cables might offer a better picture.

Speaking of resolutions, it is worth clarifying that there appears to be an error in the product page over at Xbox.com. It states that the video output settings for the Xbox 360, when using this cable includes 480p, 720p and 1080i. That is incorrect. The truth is that the resolutions you unlock when using the Xbox 360 VGA HD AV cable are as follows:

Resolution - Megapixels - Width/Height - Aspect Ratio - Standard
640x480 - 0.31 - 1.33 - 4:3 - VGA
848x480 - 0.4 - 1.76 - 16:9 - Widescreen 480
1024x768 - 0.79 - 1.33 - 4:3 - XGA
1280x720 - 0.92 - 1.78 - 16:9 - 720p
1280x768 - 0.98 - 1.66 - 16:10 - WXGA *
1280x1024 - 1.31 - 1.25 - 5:4 - SXGA
1360x768 - 1.04 - 1.77 - 16:9 - WXGA *

* The 1280x768 and 1366x768 resolutions are sometimes referred to as WXGA.
You will get a better DVD image because it will upscale the image, but you won't notice any difference with games and movies. If you can, buy from a customer friendly store (Best Buy) where they have a no hassle return policy to try it and if it doesn't work for you, then you can take it back.

VGA would be a slightly better picture. And your SD-DVDs would be up converted to boot.

Whilst the latter is true, I am not so sure about the former. I borrowed my friend's VGA cable as I wanted to try it out and I found that the picture looked a little bleached albeit slightly sharper. Overall I preferred the ambience that the component cable gave to the picture although I imagine this would depend heavily on the display you are using.
