Default Standard 360 to get 1080p HDMI

I'm not sure if this should be in "Smack-Down" or not, so I'm sticking it here for now.

Wow. Thats interesting. I'll definately be getting this if it pans out... but I'm still wondering. Just seems fishy.

(Oh, and don't worry... this'll find it's way to the smackdowns regardless. )

They took too long. I am going to get either the Onkyo TX-SR875 or the TX-NR905 HDMI 1.3 receiver that will accept 1080p over component and transcode that to HDMI to my TV.

This would have been nice last year though.

That's all well and good but you are comparing apples to oranges. Those receivers are $1500+ so to suggest them as an alternative to a cable is silly. I realize they can do a world of other things and I would love to have one if I could afford it, but referring to them here seems out of place.

I'll buy one if it's a significant improvment over VGA.

I don't think it will be an impovment over VGA unless you TV doesn't support 1080p through VGA but does support 1080p through HDMI. It's just a guess since nothing is truely known about it at the moment, but I'd say it is converting the VGA signal to HDMI.

BTW, What kind of improvement are you looking for? There is an adjustment to make the picture look better through VGA after the '07 spring update, have you tried it out? Something about black levels of monitors vs. TVs.... supposed to make the picture less dark and more vibrant or something like that. xbox-360-spring-update-fixes-washed-out-vga-display-problems

This is music to my ears. I keep hearing that 1080p only matters if you have a display that is 60" or bigger and I fit right in to that catagory. I have seen the elite hooked up on a 57" 1080p and couldnt tell much difference between 1080p and 1080i but since its just a cable upgrade then it would be well worth it for the peace of mind.

Yeah... thats why I say this whole thing is fishy. I had come to the conclusion it wasn't really feasable. It wouldn't be a purely digital signal as HDMI is supposed to be. But it would still be nice as a way to eliminate an audio cable, by running it to a receiver. I guess it would have benefits even if it's not a "true" HDMI connection. Ah well, I guess we'll see...
