Default Black Snake Moan, Hustle & Flow and 4 Magnolia Titles Arrive!

Long time reader, first time poster.

Just wanted to say that I received Black Snake Moan/Hustle and Flow and four titles from Magnolia. Black Snake Moan looks astoundingly good and the sound (its very music oriented) is exceptional.

Haven't seen any HD reviews around for the Magnolia flicks. Bubble, District B13, The Architect, and The Lost City. I'm guessing since this is HD Net, these transfers are going to be impeccable. Here's hoping.

Bubble and District B13 are well worth seeing (not sure about HD quality yet) and I haven't seen Architect or Lost City.

I'm anxious to pick up District B13, but it seems like NO b&m retailers carry Magnolia films in HD (or on BR) at all. Amazon, last time I checked, said they ship between 3-6 weeks. No thanks on waiting that long just for one movie I'm not even sure about.

Default I...

I get HD titles early for review. Not all of them but a good amount. I'll try to grade these here just on HD quality for anyone on the fence.

Default Okay...

Checking out District B13 now. I watched this on standard DVD originally so I can say that its far superior. Colors are vibrant. Detail is solid. The action scenes have a 3D quality. The film was shot on Super 35 so there is slight grain visible in darker scenes. The PQ looks the best in outside scenes (where many of the action scenes take place) and a little flat in interior scenes. I think its an accurate representation of how it was shot. This certainly wouldn't be a Tier 0 and probably not a Tier 1 but it is definitely a Tier 2, probably a high Tier 2. I think with a couple other opinions, there will be a consensus on this. I'll post again when I check out some of the other titles.

Default Just...

Just popped in Hustle and Flow. Thew film was shot on Super 16 and blown up to 35 mm. There's a lot of grain, which is exactly what it looked like in theaters. It looks really good, accurately representing the source material. Colors and detail are strong. Once again, there is grain throughout the whole film. It's always there in the background but that's what Super 16 looks like blown up so I can't complain. Compared to other titles, its probably a Tier 3 but, in my opinion, it looks excellent considering the source. If I was basing it solely on its own merit, I'd say its a Tier 1, but it does look like shit compared to many other titles so... Great film, BTW, for any who haven't seen it.

Default Black...

Just watched Black Snake Moan. One of the best looking transfers I've seen. This is easily Tier 1, if not reference, Tier 0, quality. Leaps off the screen. The colors and detail are really exceptional. Highly recommended.
