Default Who Needs Casino Royale on BD???

Not me. I just recorded the HD version off the DirecTV HD PPV channel. I know it's not full 1080p but what the heck, it will still look good. So take that BD - who needs ya! Bring on The Ultimate Matrix.

Well, that's a better solution than mine - I Netflixed the standard DVD to see if I was missing anything. The video upconverted on my XA1 pretty well, but the volume level keep zooming in & out so much it was really annoying. I found out I was lucky - it wouldn't play at all on a number of players becaase of Sony messing around with their ARccOS copy-protection system again.

from Video Business 4/12/07:

Sony Corp. of America says it has fixed a glitch on recent DVD releases including Casino Royale, The Pursuit of Happyness and Stranger Than Fiction that prevented the movies from playing on some DVD players.
Sony said the problem was due to an update of its ARccOS copy-protection system, an additional layer of protection meant to prevent ripping.Several hundred users complained directly to Sony and on discussion boards at Amazon.com and other blogs, saying their players were freezing or shutting off in the menu section of recent releases from the studio.

Sony is providing replacement discs to customers that have had problems. Customers can call Sony Pictures Home Entertainment customer service at 800.860.2878 for replacement discs.

ARccOS is known to have compatibility problems with some models of Sony, Toshiba and Harman Kardon DVD players.

Actually, the HD movie channels have a number of Blu-ray releases, and is probably a better way to watch them.

I found that on my PPV channel, they were showing in 1.85:1 instead of it's OAR of 2.35:1.

This seems more like a Smackdown topic to me.

HBO did this with Tokyo Drift in HD as well.

Some movies they zoom, and some they leave with bars, I really don't get their reasoning behind it.

HBO and Starz are two of the worst. ShowtimeHD always shows their films in their OAR.

The lossless audio is *)%*(#(#( insane! Absolutely one of my favorite discs.

I don't know about everyone else, but via Comcast my HD channels often suffer from loads of macroblocking in fast motion scenes. So I MUCH prefer owning/watching movies on disc.

DL'd the BR rip in H264 and converted to WVC1 to stream via xbox. Compared to PS3 playing on same TV and only difference was the sound. Not PCM but the fact the xbox streaming is near silent while the ps3 whines like a baby.
