Default First, Official Review of Feast HD DVD

Feast is presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen. The standard transfer was very good, but this new version tops it and provides a more refined visual presence. As expected, detail is enhanced and the image is just clearer on the whole, but the dark visuals don't always yield as much of an improvement as we'd like. The print is very clean and shows minimal signs of wear, while compression is flawless, no defects to report in the least. The colors range from vivid to dank and all stops in between, but no matter what the shade is, all of the hues look solid here, no errors at all. No issues with the contrast either, as black levels come off as sharp and refined throughout. This wasn't the mindblowing improvement I had hoped for, but it is superior in all aspects, so I think fans will be pleased.

I was very impressed with the soundtrack on the standard release and of course, the TrueHD soundtrack found here makes it all sound that much better. This is a very active movie and in this new presentation, the surrounds have more kick and have an overall more refined texture. The surrounds are open for business throughout, with a lot of fast paced, audio dynamic action scenes, as well as some good ambient presence, ranging from subtle to more impact based stuff. So yes, your system will be given a nice workout, but even when the material focuses on atmosphere and smaller touches, this soundtrack keeps up and delivers a great audio experience. The music also sounds well presented, while dialogue is smooth and never hard to understand. This is just a fantastic track and I think it is one of the best horror soundtracks I've heard in a while. This disc also includes subtitles in English and Spanish.
I already have this one on pre-order.

Movies are so rarely great art that if we cannot appreciate great trash
we have very little reason to be interested in them.

This will be a blind buy for me. Picking it up on April 15 (1 year support day)

I've heard good things about the movie.
