Thumbs up No need to sell that HD DVD player!

This is a bit off topic but relevant.

I just watched the SD Director's cut of Dances with wolves last night. OMG! It looked HD! It was so clear that if someone told me I was watching HD I would have believed them. After that I have decided that I am more than happy to stick with HD DVD for now until BR is accepted mainstream. I will also be buying more HD DVD movies off of Ebay. I will stick to select favorites of mine and just continue watching SD versions up scaled for the rest. Might even pick up a couple of HD DVD players If people start dumping them cheap.

I think people who are already jumping the gun to sell off their HD stuff are making a mistake. IMHO. They can always go BR later once and if that format makes it.

During the Christmas season, my wife and I watched the animated classic The Snowman. I noticed that the haunting score was by a composer named Howard Blake. That named sounded familiar, so i pulled out the SD DVD disc of Ridley Scott's first film The Duellists, and sure enough, it was the same composer. I decided to see how this beautifully photographed film would look upconverted on the A3.

I could have sworn I was watching a HD DVD. I can definitely live with picture quality like that.

Tell me about it. I really need to go back and watch more of my library upconverted. Honestly haven't had the time. But if most of the titles look that good HDM is going to have a hard time taking over DVD for the average consumer.

For sd-dvds', the best pictures I have come across is the two disc Signature Selection:Gladiator and The Incredibles. No joke!

I agree, my XA2 is a fantastic upconverter so I will be doing the same.

Yeah, I tossed in Wrath of Khan a couple weeks ago and it did look really good, It's movies like those that make my wife think I'm stupid for buying HD movies and players.

I think the A2 does a pretty good job. Also the HD DVD player will save on using your Blu-ray player for upconvert and it should last longer.
