Default XBOX LIVE can save HD-DVD!!!

What they need to do is make an HD-DVD container file and let you download it from XBOX LIVE onto a specially made USB memory stick... These memory sticks will be able to plug into Xbox 360, HD-DVD players, PCs and even PS3s.. Pretty much anything that has a USB port...

Since these are container files, they can hold the whole HD-DVD architecture and play just like an HD-DVD... As long as what you have the memory stick plugged into has a way to decode it and play it... Of course your player will need an update to be able to access these movies via USB...

How do we download these files? From XBOX LIVE... XBOX LIVE has acquired many partners for digital downloads as of late so there will be no worries of not having content... XBOX LIVE will give you ownership of your downloads... Instead of a rental you can keep these... They will be Full HD-DVDs just in one big file instead of discs...

Special download stations can be set up at Best Buy and other stores where you can plug in your USB and pick what you want to download... These booths will be run side by side with XBOX LIVE and charge you accordingly... Stores would love this also, because it takes up little space and you can put thousands of movies on them...

Eventually when speeds permit they can be directly downloaded from the internet...

Prices will be cheaper since your only paying for the memory stick and movies... Memory sticks can come in many forms and hold multiple movies... Even preloaded movies can be sold along with the memory...

HD-DVD players can be updated to support XBOX LIVE giving them access to downloads of movies and other content...

Once you memory stick is loaded just plug it into your HD-DVD Player's USB port and play... Xbox 360s will no longer need the HD-DVD add-on...

No more scratched discs...

HD-DVD Digital Downloads, I wouldn't mind...

Actually, you may not be that far off, at least in concept. MS has in recent statements indicated that HDi will be used in other avenues and from insider talk it sounds like this means downloads. In fact HDi was specifically designed for network interoperabiity, ideal for digital downloads.

In fact if MS moves in this direction and HDi catches on in the download market, this will likely create some positive PR for HD DVD down the road, especially if it manages to hold its ground.
