Default Paramount "considering" early pullout...

http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/07/p...e-hd-dvd-door/

Quote:
The Financial Times is reporting that Paramount is preparing to use a get out clause in its HD DVD exclusivity deal, and go back to Blu-ray, about 4 months after ending its dual-format release schedule. The move would be a result of Warner's switch to Blu-ray, using a "get out" clause in Paramount's promotional agreement with the HD DVD camp. No details on what it might take to rip up the contract and make Michael Bay very, very happy, but if the rumor proves true this could make the slow death he predicted for HD DVD a very, very fast one.

But I thought they said they were sticking with Universal and not jumping ship

They said that a day or two ago

FT article seems speculatory. Viacom already confirmed support for HD DVD earlier today.

I say wait for real announcements. This article seems somewhat speculative.

However, as I said a couple of days ago, it is essential that Toshiba retain its studio support. If they bail then it will indeed be over IMO, though I would still keep my collection since I don't see why I can't enjoy them for many years to come.

However, once again, wait for a real announcement - it would surprise me that Paramount would do this after just making a statement of support.

Warner said they weren't going to pick sides until 2009 a few weeks ago. You can't trust anything any company says, because they're always trying to not tip their hand.

Agreed. Now I regret posting it. Should have thought it out before doing so.

WB never said that, AFAIK. They never ruled out a decision in 2008. Besides you're right, you can't take everything you read to heart. With that said, Viacom has already confirmed support for HD DVD earlier today and Toshiba has too.
