Default I guess that HD-DVD is like the Dreamcast.

If WB's announcement does kill HD-DVD, I guess it makes this format like the Dreamcast.

Many great exclusives, first to be online, and plenty of innovation. But it lost out to the PS2, even though at the time, the PS2 was inferior.

I guess it boils down to Sony's brand name recognition.

actually the PS2 was a superior system and the built in dvd player helped it (especially in japan)

in hd-dvd's case it came down to marketing... almost every commercial for a movie from a blu studio mentioned bluray while alot of commercials and ads from red or even purple studios only mentioned the DVD but not the HD version

but what gets me with the warner news... i always felt warner leaned more towards hd-dvd

well Dr I wouldn't say its like the DC days. Dc lost because Sega went Bankrupt. If they had the money behind them they would have done just fine. The Dreamcast was lightyears ahead of the PS3 and Sega was way ahead of Sony in inovation just like it is today. The only thing Sony has is great marketing. In other words Sony has the ability to pull the wool over the consumers eyes and make them believe that they got the goods when all they ever do is copy what other companies do and market the shit out of it as if they came out with it first.

I know I will never buy a Blu-ray movie. Period! I will continue to buy HD DVDs until there are no more with the hope that other companies will see the light, but if not. I guess I will take a break from home movies and do something else with my time and money.

Warner did lead Red because they had patent money coming in from HD-DVD. The only reason for the Blu-Ray decision was solely because of money and incentives from the BDA. If anyone thought the Paramount/Dreamworks payout was big, it pales in comparison to what Warner had to of gotten to switch sides to pass up those kind of royalties in the future.

Umm, not really. There's a lot of articles that debunked the "Sony Hype Machine". The differences in the PS2 versus the DC, were like the PS3 versus the 360...except much smaller.

To this day thousands of people still swear by their Dreamcast. In a couple of years (if HD DVD dies) I am sure there will be people who still love their HD DVD player.

They released the last Dreamcast game " Trigger Heart Exelica " on Feb 22 2007, so the DC did get some support (albeit small) for around 8 years.
