Default Watched my first HD DVD

And I must say I was kind of underwhelmed.

I got Heroes season 1 in from netflix and popped it in and there were multiple scenes where it was really grainy.

Yes this is after I applied firmware updates.

Has anyone else watched this hddvd and noticed that.

Let me first say "Welcome to HD DVD!!!"

I was underwhelmed the first time I watched an HD DVD, too.

As I've always said/believed: You will not truly notice just how much of an improvement over DVD the PQ is on HD DVD until you get used to HD DVD and then try to go back to watching a standard DVD. THAT is when you realize "wow...how was I ever okay with this?"

Also, be careful not to confuse grain with a bad transfer. "300" is the ultimate example of this.

I agree w/ Heroes. Some scenes are a bit grainy, this could be intentional though. Watch a few more movies, you will be happy.

Heroes is grainy to begin with. Try watching King Kong or Transformers

I'm confused? Didn't you get at least 2 HD DVD's for free when you purchased your player? + More on the way.

I haven't seen Heros, but so far I have never really been truly let down yet by any HD DVD's.

yeah some films are just not the best transfers and Heroes is pretty grainy in some areas. Try watching a better transfer and you should be disappointed.

Also if you can see the SD-DVD vs HD-DVD comparison shots its pretty shocking.

Does anyone know a website that does that? I am having a tough time finding them.

Not if he picked up the A2 or A20... no HD DVDs come packed in the box with those.

IMO a tv show isn't the first way to start, go with Transformers, Bourne Ultimatum or Batman Begins.

I was had the same feeling when I watched 12 Monkeys as it is one of my favorite movies. This happens, but overall its night and day w/ SD.

ITA. Watching a movie like Hot Fuzz on HD and then watching the flip-side SD... its almost like going from DVD to VHS. It all depends on the transfers (which are getting better and better as time goes on) and how it was originally intended to be seen (as in the case of 300).
