Default Some of the year's best movies: HD DVD exclusive.

I know people love to judge a movies popularity based on box office. But as a movie buff, I know for a fact that there's just some movies that a movie fan would rather wait to own on video to better "digest" them (no pun intended).

These are the more mature, character driven types of movies. Granted, some of these do achieve boffo box office but some don't. But I saw American Gangster yesterday (oustanding Washington and Crowe performances) and was thinking: 3 of the best reviewed films of the year are coming exclusively to HD DVD soon.

Bourne Ultimatum
Eastern Promises
American Gangster

I really think these type of films released day and date with their DVD counterparts are huge. It's not just blockbusters that get people onto the HD train, it's also well reviewed films that people may have heard of, but were waiting for them on video.

What do you guys think?

Definitely. Most of the movies which I am really waiting for were not Blockbusters.

That's what I love about HD DVD.....the content......it goes beyond the latest summer blockbuster. Also, I'm just not a big Disney fan, and Spidey 3 was a big letdown........

Disney has screwed blu-ray. I have no idea why they didn't release The Toy Story flicks and Finding Nemo this Christmas.

I really think that would've "killed" HD DVD. Now there really aren't any "must have" movies on blu-ray. They seem to be on HD DVD. Right now, Transformers and Bourne Ultimatum are the season's two big "must haves" and they're both HD DVD exclusive.

That's my opinion of course.

you're not the only one looking forward to tremors

of course some of the big ones i'm really looking forward to are neutral releases from WB... harry potter, blade runner, twister... not too many hd-dvd only releases coming up that make me want to jump up and buy them now

but since i don't own a bluray player i'll be adding to the hd-dvd sales when i buy the releases from neutral studios

WB releases are usually always superior on HD DVD. More interactive features and IME.

I saw American Gangster as well and thought it was amazing! (I knew it would be awesome) - so im really excited for that in HighDef as well as Eastern Promises - although it didn't do great at the Box Office - it really is a fantastic film and if you liked AHOV you should check EP out
