Default Planet Terror and Death Proof - worth waiting for?

I haven't seen either of these and certainly would like to... but I'd rather see them in high-def. At the same time, I gather these movies have intentionally poor image quality, so would they really look much better on HD DVD, vs upscaled SD DVD?

In short, should I wait for the HD DVD versions (if there ever are any, which seems uncertain given Weinstein's HD comatose condition), or should I just buy the SD DVDs and upscale them? (I know there is a German HD DVD of Death Proof planned, but I'd want to see the docus in English with movies like these)

You should definitely not wait and go watch Death Proof tonight!! The soundtrack alone will make you appreciate watching it now and not waiting. When Planet Terror comes out go rent/buy that and watch it as well. Both movies were really cool in their own rights but I hope a real Grindhouse DVD comes out at some point. The entire experience of both movies with the trailers in the middle was really cool to watch in the theater.

In my opinion, Deathproof was the worst of the Terantino movies-it was ok, but the conversations just took up too much time without any real character development. Pulp Fiction and the Kill Bills were awesome, but Deathproof was lacking (soundtrack was interesting, but almost overdone).

These films will benfit from HD as much, or more than any other film source. Yeah the movies were intentionally "dirty looking" but this is an artistic choice that will be more faithfully represented in HD.

Don't watch them in sd!

I watched Deathproof last night. Awful, I'm so glad I did not buy this movie. They tried too hard to make this movie "cool" but it was sooooo boring and no real payoff at the end. Pass on this one.

Agree
Only thing I like about this movie is for car chasing scenes in the end.

Yes, they are. Both were amazing movies, I held off on buying death proof until the hd dvd comes out for both.

"death proof" is split in half, with the first half all messed up and with the second half very pristine to showcase the car chases.
