Default The BIG Win for HD DVD (In regards to the Paramount Deal)

So, Im a HUGE HD DVD supporter, and was floored with the Paramount announcment. However heres the BIG gain from this.

I was at work today, and I always brag about the HD DVD and how great the PQ looks and how great it sounds. I always get teh same "DVD for me response"! and... "I hear Blu Ray might win out" Blah Blah Blah

Anyways, so yesterday I was talking with a friend at work about how i was pissed Life Of Brian was exclusive to Blu Ray (STILL PISSED!) and my friend who knows NOTHING about HD DVD, or Blu Ray Says

"Oh well they should be done soon anyways, dident HD DVD just get Paramount? Transformers?"

"Yeah..."

"Yeah..I might pick one up"

Even if Blu Ray is still winning, this is precived to be, to the non knowing HD fans a HUGE win for HD DVD..even my boss was talking about how he might pick one up for christmas cause they've basically won...

The fact that they're wrong is not the point...its the casual people who precive this as a victory... I think THIS will be the true benfit of this deal... getting a few more of thoese DVD only people thinking hey...its only a couple hundred..lets pick up a HD DVD player!

perception is often reality as SO many people on here have pointed out.
The amount of $$ for this deal will pale in comparison to what it will likely do for HD-DVD in the long and short run IMO.

I'm telling you, this holiday season will be surprisingly impressive for HD DVD, but next year blu-ray can't touch HD DVD and the importance of Paramount will be noticed... this Paramount deal now makes Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Hellboy 2, Star Trek, 'cloverfield' (or whatever the hell it is), Love Guru (think Austin Powers) all HD DVD exclusive- versus what? 'Wolverine', which was an R-rated script that FOX already said would be a PG-13 flick, and 'Punisher 2'. Then Indy 4 and Dark Knight are neutral, provided no surprise announcements from WB.

Man, I can't wait for Bourne on HD DVD... it's driving me nuts..

Any of my friends that talk at all about high-def discs always think HD DVD will win and think Blu-ray is a typical Sony non-issue. The perception out there is that HD DVD will be the natural successor...and well, it is isn't it?

The Chronicles of Narnia, Wall-E (Pixar), Hancock (Will Smith), Step Brothers (Will Ferrell - assuming boxofficemojo's release date is right), Pineapple Express (the next Apataw / Rogen flick).

Who knows how any film on either side will turn out, but to compare 2008's releases now is kinda dumb. Iron Man looks great, but Hulk and Hellboy 2 are big question marks. I enjoyed Hellboy and Hulk a lot, but neither are huge franchises. The first Hulk effectively killed the franchise and Hellboy is marginal at best. Love Guru... who knows? Personally, I think it sounds awful, but it could be a hit, I guess. Star Trek comes out Christmas, which means it is a DVD releases in 2009, after the 18 months end, so who knows what happens with that? I sure don't. And we know nothing about Cloverfield? I have read a lot from people who are already sick of the movie and there isn't even a title for it yet!!!! Could be big, could be a flop. Same can be said about all the BD movies I listed (except for Narnia, we all know that will be huge - although probably awful).

Point is: who knows what the future may bring...

The deal with paramount have made me confident that the format will survive. I was not sure about it lately with the news about BlockB and Target. I will finally upgrade my XBOX addon to a Toshiba HD A35 (when available) to have analog out for TRUE HD. I hope the DACs are good on it. Without the Paramount deal, I will not have upgraded.
