Default Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - High-Def Digest

Peter Bracke on Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas:

'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' continues to be a divisive film. Just as with the work of Hunter S. Thompson and the films of Terry Gilliam, I suspect you'll either love it or you'll hate it. As for this HD DVD, it is a perfectly fine effort -- a nice transfer and the surprising inclusion of a Dolby TrueHD track almost make up for the pithy extras, which are no match for the far more deluxe Criterion DVD edition. Bottom line, unless you're willing to wait for something more elaborate in the future, this is worth picking up if you're a fan of the film, or merely curious.

The whole movie looked awesome, I rented it from netflix with no intention to buy, but I was so impressed with the video quality that I went right out and ordered it from Amazon after watching it.

It does come with a TrueHD soundtrack, but I was not blown away by the sound quality - not that it was bad, it just did not catch my attention.

I think it would have helped if I was on drugs as I was watching this movie. Much of the movie seem to be one drug hallucination after another. The part with the dinosaurs on HD looked just that. Bunch of guys in rubber suits. HD makes it very obvious.

i don't think being on drugs is a prerequisit, but understanding what it feels like certainly helps...
