Default test discs

Hi -
I found these test discs

They do not play in any of my stand alone HD DVD players, but seem to be used to test out physical characteristics of a HD DVD disc, not exactly sure what sort of drives or software is required. I think these are HD DVDs, but since I can't play them I am not 100% sure and so posting here to see if anyone is more familiar with these test discs or can confirm these are true HD DVDs. According to a spec sheet I was able to find there were 26 different of these HD DVD test discs. The only specs that I am familiar with to indicate that these are HD DVDs are the data capacity specs for single layer (15GB) and dual layer (30GB).

Anyway, if anyone knows more about these please share.

thanks

Hi John,

great find! I was also able to find one of those discs in japan and should (hopefully!) get it in the next
few days.

As you said I found them to be test discs to test out physical characteristics (radial run-out, unbalance, defects, ...). I guess that there are short demo files on it.

Almedio was a member of the HD DVD promotion group and I am pretty sure that these are "real" HD DVDs.
I will let you know when I got my disc.

Thanks Marco

Yeah let me know if you are able to find any demo clips, when you get your disc. Would be cool if there are.

I got the disc today but I don't need to test the disc. If you have a closer look at the spec sheet you will find
RECORDED CONTENTS: RANDOM PIT.
This means no watchable content. Anyway nice collectibles IMHO.

Thanks Marco. Bruce although there is no video content but since it seems these are real "commercial" HD DVDs might be still worth adding to your master list

Ok John, I'll put them somewhere in post 5 in the demo discs section (might have to make a separate list though for test discs and other unplayable discs). Congrats on your score!

Got my copy of the Almedio AHD-940x

and more calibration discs:

All those discs are not playable but this was clear from the outset.
Last but not least I can show something very special: a China HD DVD Test Disc.

Not a "real" HD DVD but in the family circle..
