Default Portuguese Universal release of "The Holiday". Fake or real?

Hey all,

I received a large shipment from eBay of Imports today and I've got a gut feeling that's leaving me skeptical as to the validity of the items. In particular, a copy of "The Holiday", with a Portuguese cover.

I've scanned the cover and disc. Maybe it's all fine, and I'm just paranoid, but I've never seen a Portuguese cover. What's making me skeptical as well is the silver on the Universal cover is grey print, rather than the shiny silver color.

Thanks!

Is the back of the disc Silver and shiny like regular HD DVD or is Redish and shiny like HD DVD-R... but the looks of it it might be legit.

All the actual discs are silver, not red.

I got today:

O Amor Nao Tira Ferias (The Holiday - Portuguese Import - Universal)
Les Vacances de Mr. Bean (Mr. Bean's Holiday - French Import - Studio Canal)
Raison's D'Etat (The Good Shepherd - French Import - Studio Canal)
Les Chatiments (The Reaping - French Import - Warner)
Operation Dragon (Enter the Dragon - French Import - Warner)
Batman Begins - (French Import - Warner)
The Game (French Import - Universal)
Mise a Prix (Smokin' Aces - French Import - Studio Canal)
Traffic (French Import - Studio Canal)
Les Affranchis (Goodfellas - French Import - Warner)
Total Recall (French Import - Studio Canal)
Le Coeur Des Hommes (French Import - 2 Editions/Warner)
Rambo 1,2,3 (all French Imports - Studio Canal)
Renaissance - (French Import - Pathe)
300 (French Import - Warner)
Zidane - (French Import - Universal)
Voyage au Bont De L'Enfer (The Deer Hunter - French Import - Studio Canal)
Kirikou (French Import - 3 Editions/Warner)
Orange Mecanique (A Clockwork Orange - French Import - Warner)
Memoires de Nos Peres (Flags of Our Fathers - French Import - Warner)
Les Triplettes de Belleville (French Import - France TV/Warner)
Prete-Moi Ta Main (French Import - Studio Canal)
Nous Etions Soldats - (We Were Soldiers - French Import - Studio Canal)
Burt Munro (World's Fastest Indian - French Import - France TV/Warner)

So yeah, a big pile. The seller was listed in California, but the two parcels came from Hong Kong. This was what brought up my original suspicions.

Anyway, any thoughts or comments would help. If anyone can confirm that these are ones that all *should* exist, that would be a relief.

Thanks again.

I'm sure some HD DVDs were released in Portugal, so no doubt it's legit. However I don't think anything "unique" was released there (AFAIK) in terms of different encodes/transfers. In this case, it would be the same as the UK, German, French or Japan releases of the movie, since they all were done by Universal. In fact, I'm sure it's the same exact disc, with the only difference being disc art (perhaps) and the cover.

It looks 100% legit to me. The disc itself is IDENTICAL to the UK release (I literally just checked it word for word with my copy and it looks exactly the same, same wording/logos/numbers etc.

The Disc Cover looks pretty darn close to the same (there are obviously a few differences as my copy is in English not Portugese). The Disc itself has Portugese subs on it (although only English, French, Spanish, Italian,German and japanese audio)

The UPC is slightly different as well but I would have expected that I guess...

Phew. Thanks all. I guess my paranoia got the best of me. I was concerned when I saw the Hong Kong address, and a few of the covers were in pretty rough shape.

Hi again.

Does anyone have a verified legit copy of Rambo II French Import? I wanted to know if you could compare it to this for me:

http://b.imagehost.org/0945/rambo2.png

Mine says DVD 5 on the back, and the audio is listed as 2.0 (the disc plays at 5.1 DTS).

I've found another thread over at AVSForum that seems to indicate that these are fakes.

Thanks

I sold my rambo Boxed set from France (I have the Australian discs) but here is a link to the disc with artwork (scanned by me)

http://www.ormondconsulting.com/hd/details/25343.html

It shows one extra language on the official one and the barcode is wrong on yours (unless the box set discs had a different barcode)

Thanks for that.. Strange how yours shows DVD 5 on the back cover, but my Rambo 1 case has the HD-DVD info.

I wonder if the boxset was mislabeled, and so I have 2 & 3 from the box set and the first film is the stand-alone?

I had a look on Amazon.fr, and all the individual ones they list all have "Le Film: HD-DVD" on the back.

Plot thickens. I have the actual trilogy set coming from a true North American seller soon, so I guess I can use that to compare when it gets here.

I just don't trust that Hong Kong is a utopia for authentic import HD-DVDs..
