Kind of funny, kind of sad

My A30 is in transit from Amazon and this format could possibly be dead before it arrives! The good news it's a good upconvertor according to reviews, I own 20+ HDDVDs (and the add on) with 5 very inexpensive HDs on the way, and according to Wiki there are 386 to choose from... so for $152 I still say I did ok. Even if the bottom falls out and these drop to $50 I don't mind paying for an item what I feel it's worth, regardless.

Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow,
No tomorrow,
No tomorrow,
And I find it kind of funny,
I find it kind of sad,
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had

Yeah, great song from Tears for Fears, used to great affect in Donnie Darko.

Indeed, great song and even better film. Would like to see it on hi-def.

There are plenty of titles to choose from. I don't know how many are currently up for sale, but I bet there are still thousands out there, so you don't need to worry about buying them all right away.

If/when this all "ends" do you think HD DVD's will cease and then cost outrageous prices like Paramount Blu-Rays? I don't ask because I want to make money off it, I ask because I don't want to spend a lot of money on them in the future (cause I know I don't have enough money to buy every title I want right away).

I think HD DVDs will probably behave like Laser Discs did; they'll get really cheap in the short time as retailers blowout their inventories. But long term, fans will gravitate toward the better catalog movies and wind up paying a lot for them.

You'd be amazed what some unwatched Laser Discs go for on eBay.

http://www.hddvdstats.com/index.php shows 406 releases.

Re: "Mad World," here's a fun version: http://www.stefananion.com/assets/mad_world_remix.zip :D

If you want to experience hidef 1080p entertainment and don't want to spend $400 for a hidef player and $25 per movie, HDDVD is a good choice. Just be aware that Toshiba won't be making newer models of HDDVD players and new HDDVD movies will slowly dwindle.

There are over 400 HDDVD US titles and about 800 HDDVD titles if you include international releases.

Movies like T2, Saw, and Resident Evil are available as imports. If you don't mine menus in French or German. You would be fine with UK titles. :D

Yeah, Donnie Darko is a very very interesting movie. I really like it, but I know some won't.

At the end of the day, you have a great hd dvd player and great movies still available. Enjoy your purchase.
