I really appreciate the comments, but in any case this thread is about PQ only. The list I made only reflects that and not about which release is better overall, but rather LOOKS better. Period.

The early Paramount releases on Blu-ray I haven't seen, but only went off of the comments in the reviews I found that compared the two releases. Since nearly all Paramount's BD releases during the format war were mpeg2, there's no reason to doubt their conclusions. Anyway I plan to rent some of them to make sure, and to see if there are any others.

The Universal releases are all based off AVS screenshot threads, so those were easy. If it was very close or if there was any doubt, they didn't make the list.

The import list I'm still working on, but I need to rent some to compare and also to look for old posts from those who have compared. Anybody who has both versions I would appreciate a confirmation (or otherwise) of what's on (or not on) the list.

After looking at Xlyon's screen captures I think Spartacus can be put on the list.

I haven't purchased Band of Brothers yet, but from what I have read from the many opinions in this forum that the HD-DVD version of Band of Brothers eliminates a bit more of the grain versus the Blu-ray edition. In fact, I saw some screenshots in another forum and if the screenshots are correct, it in fact looks better. Peace...
The HD-DVD version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone seems to be slightly lighter than the US Blu-Ray coutnerpart, but I thought it was just my equipment. Batman Begins seems to look better to me, but I think they use the same encode. Most of my HD-DVDs use the same video encode as the Blu-Ray counterpart - the difference is that the Blu-Ray GENERALLY has better audio. The exception is Phantom of the Opera - the Blu-Ray did not have HD audio.

Animal House and The Big Lebowski added to above list.

Since the Tremors release, are there any other Blu-ray Universal titles known to have excessive DNR as compared to the HD DVD? Or any other movies missing that should (or should not) be on the list?

I didn't know American Graffiti was released on HD DVD. Was it a foreign release?
