Default Constantin (Germany) goes Blu Ray

Sorry, import fans but it seems that is now has also begun in Europe:

According to german site AreaDVD the german label Constantin (FF: Rise of the Silver Surfer, The perfume) follows Warner into Blu Ray exclusivity!

I have a feeling, other labels will follow shortly.

Too bad, I hoped that at least here at home I could buy HD DVDs for a little time longer.

Err. Isn't Constantin a Warner exec?

EDIT: Oh doesn't seem to be. But it's actually no great lose. The Blu-guys can get those shity movies like The Parfum whenever they want. I'd pay for not seeing this crap popping up and getting reviewed like it would be the greatest film on Earth.

The decision by Warner, the future only Blu-ray Disc support now also leads to consequences on the German market: As the first manufacturer wants Constantin Film his films in future only on Blu-ray Disc. From 1 March there will be no more new HD DVDs by Constantin Film. It had initially Constantin even exclusively supports the HD DVD and about a year before "The Perfume" first exclusively on HD DVD. Only since the autumn of 2007, new movies on Blu-ray Disc. The national providers, regardless of the major Hollywood studios market their films, had also been the strength of the HD DVD camp. Because both previously published Constantin / Highlight universe as well as film, Concorde and its world cinema films in both formats and thus also made films accessible in the United States only by a studio were published, which exclusively on HD DVD or Blu-ray disc set.
We will still get Resident Evil: Extinction, though.

And the listings for the expected HD DVD releases from FS-Film have disappeared from their site... Doesn't look good...

I didn't expect a Fox distributing studio to release on HD DVD anyways.

Liqwid,

You know the companies releasing these German HD DVDs?

German HD DVD Releases (Updated Dec 27)

* SAW - February 8, 2008
* Resident Evil: Extinction - February 14, 2008
* Premonition (2007) - March 20, 2008
* Death Proof - March 23, 2008
* Zimmer 1408 (Director's Cut) - June 2, 2008
* Halloween (2007) - 2008
* The Mist (2007) - 2008
* Planet Terror - 2008
* SAW II - March 2008 (Tentative)

Hopefully they're not all Constantin cause that's a good lineup of releases that would be great to import.

That said, the Constantin imports of Resident Evil that I have aren't the greatest of HD quality anyways.

They were on track to do it though, their Fox distribution is just one aspect of their business... Shame if they just decided to drop all HD DVD plans now.

If they are Kinowelt, then probably. The same goes with Dutch Filmworks releases.

In my understanding only "Resident Evil: Extinction" from that list is Constantin / Highlight. There are Concorde, Senator and Kinowelt releases there mostly. Hope the others are not deserting.
