Default Bourne Ult. UK vs AU vs US???

It looks like The Bourne Ultimatum is in non combo format in the UK and AU. Is there any difference between Bourne Ultimatum UK (rated 12) and Bourne Ultimatum AU (rated M)? I don't know how the ratings systems compare. My second question is this: Is there a difference in PQ or AQ on the UK or AU non combo format disc vs the US combo disc? I'm just bored and was wondering if anyone knew. My is the shop So it is going to be all for about two weeks. I already have the combo but might spring for the non combo if there is any advantage. I'm bored...

A good rule of thumb is that if the same studio (Universal in this case) releases a movie in multiple countries, then it will have the same PQ and usually the same AQ. The only difference would be having different audio/subtitle tracks, and of course it not being a combo.

In some cases there may be a difference in extras. For example, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix UK version not only has more extras than the US version, but they are ALL in 1080p HD (about 3 hours worth, spread over 2 discs).

So then all the Bourne Ultimatum's are from Universal and all the same? The Australian version seems to be fetching considerably more $ than the rest, so that's what got me thinking. That makes sense that being from the same studio they would be the same, I didn't even think to consider that. Interesting about Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. That is actually another set I was thinking about picking up on HD DVD as I just got finished reading all the books. Very helpful that you mentioned that. I definitely always try to pick up the best version possible!

At least in PQ it is the same. I haven't heard of a single HD DVD title released by the same studio/distributor in more than one country that has different PQ.

On the other hand, The Pianist, for example, was released by four different distributors and so has different encodes (although probably from the same master). Here is a list of those titles in full:

So all those are indeed the best version? I'm looking for the best versions regardless of whether they are the US version. I would say best version, US version, and earliest. In that order

Actually most of those I don't know which is the "best" version. Probably most are indistinguishable, but only differ in the encoding. The ones that I'm aware of that clearly are the best, PQ-wise, are:

2006 Fifa World Cup: All Goals (Japanese version)
Appleseed: Ex Machina (Japanese version)
Pan's Labyrinth (UK or French version, depending on your tastes in grain)
Running Scared (German)

Probably some of the other Japanese movies may have a little better PQ, but I haven't compared. Other differences are in the aspect ratio (open matte 1.78:1 vs. theatrical 2.35:1) or in the run time (theatrical vs. extended), or in the audio (TrueHD vs. [email protected] mbps)

I just decided to make the US version, if there was one, the "master" version, since it's much cheaper/easier to obtain and usually is just as good (but not always). But I'm like you, I just want the best if I can.
