Default Question about HDA2 720p/1080i.

Since ive had my HD player ive always had my player run at 1080i because thats what my PS3 BR player is set at. I was just wondering what is the better choice, 720p, or 1080i?

It really depends on your television. If the native resolution is 720p, I would highly suggest setting your components to that.

However if you have a 1080p set, you'll just have to do some trial and error. If you put a 1080i source into your television, it will de-interlace the image to display a 1080p picture. However the de-interlacing chip in your television may not be that great and therefore the image wouldn't look right. In this case 720p is your best bet. It's really just trial and error - if you can see a difference and you prefer one over the other, then go with the one you prefer.

Well actually my television is a 720p but I set mine at 1080i and Ill tell you why...

First off, I know 720 lines is the max my TV will go but since the movies are encoded in 1080p, I see more detail in the picture from being set to 1080i (same res as 1080p just not as fast for refreshing) and my TV scales it down to 720 but I still notice a bit more detail. So if I were you I would look at both and see what you like best. Some people say they like 1080i out for HD-DVD and 720p for SD DVD upconversion, but personally I think it does a great job upconverting on 1080i. So try both and see what you like best. Different tvs do different things as well. Good luck.
