Default HD-A2 or XA2

I'm seriously considering buying either the HD-A2 or XA2. I'm not particular concerned with PQ between the 2 players because my TV is only 1080i and I doubt there would be much difference between the 2 players on my TV.(not upgrading anytime soon) I can get the A2 right now on Amazon for $250 and the XA2 for roughly $599 or whatever. All I'm really concerned with is audio quality via TrueHD, DD+. Does anyone see any reason I should spend the extra money for the XA2 over the A2. Any input or suggestions would be welcome.

P.S. I've already got the Onkyo TX-SR805 on order. I can't take this audio from the Xbox360 add on anymore. Please help me make a decision.

Due to the inclusion of HDMI 1.3 in the XA2, I'm pretty sure you will be able to get TrueHD and DD+. However, whether this increase in sound quality is worth the extra $350 - I'm not so sure.

I was told in a different forum that the A2 could give me TrueHD and DD+.

Well any HD-DVD player can theoretically, but it would have to be output as uncompressed PCM. XA2 (correct me if I'm wrong) is the only one to output a bit stream to a receiver because of the HDMI 1.3.

Since you got a receiver that can decode TruHD you can get the XA2 and test both the receiver decoding the sound track versus the player and see if one is better than the other. Personally I dont think you will hear any difference between the A2 and the XA2.

The XA2 is IMO a player for those who have to have the top of the line. The A20 will do the same thing minus the bitstream. Personally I don't see wat the big deal is with the PCM, it's going to sound the same anyway.

Actually I've heard interesting things about the A20, like that it's 1080p output isn't native, but rather the player scales the content down to 1080i and then de-interlaces it back to 1080p... Plus I thought only the XA2 had the analog outputs, or does the A20 have them as well?

You know what would be great on this site, is a HD DVD and Blu-ray Hardware shopping guide, where you could select different players and compare them to each other.

Chad you are absolutely correct about the A20 outputting to 1080i then deinterlacing back out to 1080p.
