Default your advice about xbox elite

Hi everyone, I want your advice. I'm planning to buy xbox elite because of the HDMI output and I already have xbox360 with hd add on; I have Bravia 46X (the European model of xbr2). I currently use 1080i and I wonder if I should buy elite for full 1080p or it is a bad idea?

EDIT: Sorry I'm not sure if this the right section for posting my thread. I posted here because I'm talking about the xbox as a HD dvd player and not game console.

If hdmi is so important for you to enjoy gaming and movie watching on the 360 then go for it. I mean it is a big investment if you have the premimum one with the 20 gig.

If your into downloading movies, tv shows the bigger hd is a plus.

However there is a small chance of losing your content from the 20 gig to the 120 gig when you use the migration cable.

Now for movie playback in hd, i can honestly say that i do not see a above and beyond leap when watching say planet earth in 1080p on vga and hdmi through the 360.

Also GRAW2 and virtua tennis which are the only 1080p 360 games don't really pop out from 720/1080i games when using the same connections.

How do you have it setup now? If you don't have the VGA cable you may want to try that first. If you like the quality it'll save you all the money you'd spend on the elite.

Problem with the VGA cable is not all TV's will run at their native resolution. My JVC for example only runs at 1024x768. However my Westinghouse run 1920x1080. Best to check the TV manual for supported resolutions if your TV has a VGA input.

my other westinghouse the 32 inch is 1024x768 on 360 games i run it at 1280x720 with the vga cable.

my 37inch 1080p i run it native.

The elite is a sad attempt to compete against the ps3. Microsoft should have started with the 20 gig and 120 gig for 300 and 400.

I have a 20gig and just got the elite also. I am enjoying the better PQ with the HDMI cable vs the component that came with the systems. If you have the prem 360 then a monster component should be close to the hdmi quality. Unless you have a 1080p tv then it's HDMI. I am enjoying my elite and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to buy a 360 or need another one. Now my old prem is my lan party 360

P.S- did not lose any data when transfering over to 120 gig drive.

Thanks for all your response guys, the problem is I canít benefit from VGA cable because the European module of xbr2 don't support 1080p. So if I want to display HD dvds in 1080p the only choice I have is to buy xbox elite, so will I notice a difference in 46" when displaying a HD video?

I wish I could tell you the difference in PQ with HDMI on my elite between 1080i vs 1080p. My 32 lcd phillips does not support 1080p only 1080i You could prob see a better screen frame transitions during fast paced scenes do to how progressive handles that better then interlaced.

On a side note the PQ with my hd-dvd on my elite with HDMI is the same as watching my only 2 blu-rays on my PS3 using HDMI.

it depends man. If you have the money to burn. Why not. bigger hard drive and HDMI but dont think going from 1080i to 1080p is gonna make the difference between 480 and 720p. IS there a difference? yes. can everybody tell? no but you have a good tv. But if the difference isnt enough, i would say, save your cash. your just getting a bigger hard drive that on my 360 I dont need. On my PS3, yea, the bigger hdd was a must but on my 360, i dont hold much content. Having said that, I had a regular 360 and I own an elite now also.

Will you see a difference on a 46" display with HDMI? Probably not. It also depends on how far away you sit from your TV. If you sit farther than than 2 times the distance of your TV measured diagonally I would say absolutely not. Home Theater magazine had a blog on screen size and resolution that you might want to review.

Short answer: Save your money until they come out with a quieter 360. Then if for some reason you can get close enough to see a difference the sound of the 360 won't distract you.
