Default Toshiba HD-A3 Disc Read Problems

How come it won't boot some HD DVD movies the first time I put them? Is this a well known problem with this particular player where some of the HD DVD movies don't work and get an error saying that it is not a dvd format disc, or do I have a "defective" player?

So far, at least half of my HD DVD movies won't boot at first try, and the only way I can get them boot is by putting a movie that will work, let it play for a few seconds, and then take it out and put the disc that couldn't boot before.

I have my firmware update to 2.0/1.1 and my twin format settings set to HD DVD.
