Default 360 HD DVD add on the BEST player!?

Where the hell is cent comeing from?

They've rated the 360 hd dvd drive the highest of ALL hd players.

How does that even make sense?!

"If Microsoft issues another firmware update to enable 1080p support for HD DVDs via component video, we'll update this section."

Considering that's impossibe w/ drm it seems they have no idea what they're talking about?

I wouldn't say its the best or worst, i bought it because i didn't want to spend over 500 on a player that could become a relic with in a year. Also if hd dvd goes bust i only spent 200 so i really wouldn't lose anything.

However with the recent firmware update on the add on it fixed alot of little nagging issues and the player looks and sounds perfect.
I just wished they got rid of the ugly gray border.
I give it a 8.0

It's good for what it is, but it's fairly unflexible as a player. I'm surprised to see those reviews. Very interesting indeed...

From Cnet:

The bottom line: While it doesn't offer HDMI connectivity, the Xbox 360 HD DVD player matches up well against stand-alone HD DVD players, and it's a relative bargain at $200.

That's why.

The 360 add-on is a great buy for what it offers. It's what started me in HD DVD. I was quite happy with it, but found I was ordering Blu-ray disks in preference to HD. Why? Because the add-on required a VGA hook up for SD DVD upscaling (and I had to change back and forth to use my PC), and there was less flexibility wrt TV adjustments. With the current pricing on the Toshiba HD-A2 player, that would be my choice now.

I switched out my 360 for an Elite, so I'd have HDMI, and added a Toshiba so I could ditch the "white" 360 add-on (shallow, I know). Not knocking the 360 add-in, just saying it's not the best there is.

You guys do know there is a TINY MICROSCOPIC difference between running the xbox 360 on component or HDMI

My first player was the HD add on. The noise started to bother me so I bought a XA1. The XA1 froze up playing Children of Men so sent it to Toshiba for repairs (after it ate my update disk). While I was waiting I bought an A2. Comparing the three I would say that the A2 gave me the best picture but all are throughly watchable. I couldn't justify the A20 or XA2 because my TV does not accept 1080P.
