Default Need advice please.

I bought an HD-A2 player 27 days ago. Which means I have three days to go before my return policy (with Amazon) ends.

I bought Planet Earth and Troy. Both were excellent buys and played flawlessly on the player. I then rented from Netflix Children of Men, Smokin Aces and Good Shepherd. None of them played so I called Toshiba and they sent me the 1.5 Firmware upgrade disc.

Needless to say, it did not fix the problem so I sent the three discs back to Netflix. Netflix has since sent me the Smokin Aces replacement with the other two still to come. Smokin Aces loaded up to the Universal logo and then I got an error code and the player locked up requiring a reboot by pulling the power.

My question: Do you guys think my player is faulty or are they the discs?

If its the player, I can get a replacement from Amazon. If its the discs, I'll keep requesting different copies from Netflix.

I just don't want to own a player that MIGHT be defective.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post!

If your player is at version 1.5 then I'm going to have to assume its the discs. I purchased both smokin aces and children of men when my player was at rev level 1.3 and didnt have any problems playing either disc. Sorry cant speak to the good shepherd as I havent seen that movie.

This is just speculation but it makes sense in my mind....

Netflix probably obtains all of its copies of movies at the same time, most likely at the very beginning of (or even slightly before) the street date of release. Having said that, all of the titles you mentioned have known manufacturing issues -- it is possible that Netflix purchased a bunch of discs that came from a 'bad pressing.' It's most likely the disc and not the player. The best way to tell would be to find someone else with the same player/firmware version that has the discs in question, and see if they play in your player.
