Default RCA HDV5000 Player

I had never known that RCA made a HD player. Is this player similar to the A1? Also if anyone here owns one, how is the build quality compared to the Toshibas? Thanks!

It's a rebadged HD-A1, identical in practically every aspect.

Centauri do you know if it is as durable as the A1?

Peterhefer1 I think the RCA player is a looker. The way it looks, it just reminds me of those early dvd players, and some laserdisc player.

It is an A1, except it has the RCA logo on it.

Hold on, hold on. Are you telling me that it is an A1? Kidding aside, I shouldnt have any fears of bad workmanship then, if thats the cause. Well it looks like I have found my new backup player. Thanks guys!

I posted the spec sheet and the user manual for this player in the Files section over at thebombshelter if your looking for the player specifics. I had a chance to check one out a while back and I think the only real difference is that the remote was different. The RCA remote is IMO nicer that that huge thing that came with my A1. Also, the face of the player is metal/plastic vs the glass on the Toshiba. The player is built like a tank, and it should have the same audio DACs as the A1, which IMO are superb.

It's an A1 with the A2 remote. Better in every way. Looks nice, and much better remote.

Make sure to use the Toshiba HD-A1 4.0 firmware. I still use mine all the time, best $500 I've ever spent at Walmart!

I have the same unit too from Walmart. This one is built like a tank, still working, never had any problems playing movies, even combo discs. I used one of those FW upgrades from Toshiba for HD-A1 last year and the flash screen now shows Toshiba. One of the best units I've ever owned.
