Default hd a20 send true hd to reciever to decode?

so i recently got a new denon 1909 my blu ray player sends the audio to be decoded by the reciever as the reciever lights up and says HD master audio and so on

but when i just tried the matrix and set it to true hd it comes up on the reciever as multi ch in
can it be set so the reciever simply decodes the true hd?

If I remember correctly, the A35 is the only model that bitstreams, and all other Toshiba HD DVD players decode the audio internally only.

I have the HD-A20 and HD-XA2 and can confirm that the HD-A20 does not send bitsream but I don't care. The HD-XA2 does bitstream and after seeing the light on my receiver light up once, I just have it decode Dolby TrueHD anyway. Having the player decode Dolby TrueHD and output PCM works just as well in my opinion. The fact the HD-A20 can't decode and can't bitstream DTS-HD MA is an issue but fortunately I only own a couple HD DVD's with DTS-HD MA.

That's it. The XA2 and 805 were way out my price range, so naturally I forgot all about them.

Too bad about the bitstreaming...after getting a fancy receiver I now totally understand that desire to see the little logo light up. Or, more practically, to have the choice and see if it makes a difference which device does the decoding. But I've resigned myself to the fact that the only device I've got that doesn't just send out PCM is my DVD player.

I assume you mean bitstreaming of high res codecs. Even the PS3 will bitstream DD, DTS and their respective extensions.

There are SIX HD DVD players that will bitstream high res codes (DD+, DTS-HD HR, DTS-HD MA, Dolby TrueHD) to AVR's via HDMI 1.3 or higher.

Toshiba HD-XA2
Toshiba HD-A35
Onkyo DV-HD805 (same as XA2)
Integra DHS-8.8 (same as XA2 and DV-HD805)
LG BH200
Samsung BD-UP5000

Currently none of the above six internally decode DTS-HD HR or DTS-HD MA, either. Without bitstreaming all HD DVD players are stuck with the DTS core.
