Default New york trip - multi region blu ray/hd-dvd hybrid with dts-ma/ 2.0??????

Hi

I am going to New York soon. I would like to buy a hybrid blu ray hd dvd player to bring back to the UK.

I think this is wishful thinking as there are only two hybrid players out there but it should have the following

Multi region Blu ray capability with remote hack - (dvd multi region not important)
7.1 Analog outputs - with internally decoded DTS-MA
Profile 2.0 possiblity.

Does such a beast exist?

LG BH200
At Amazon
Mini FAQ at AVS
Combo players at AVS
I don't know who still sells them.
It has the all region bluray.
2.0 is supposed to becoming with a future update.

7.1 analog outs NO

But the Samsung BD-UP5000? It has 7.1 out but will it ever produce dts-ma over it? I could maybe live without the region hack.

I don't think the samsungs can be made region free Blu.
7.1 Analog outputs and internal DTS MA decode as not available on the LG BH200,
the samsung UP5000 has analog outputs, I don't know about their internal decoding.

I think both support DTS and other sound by enabling bitstream output via HDMI 1.3output.

From what I seen and read the lg bh200 is the better player, less issues with new Blus and fairly stable with HD. The up5000 could do better if samsung ever gets around to firmware updates.
So far LG has been keeping their promises and so far it looks like they interned on updating the BH200 to profile 2.0

Are you sure about that? I forgot to even try it before I packed mine away. I was excited to see it bitstreamed. Maybe it will come with an update

Sorry, I meant to say the internal decode.
It does do it through bitestream, i know it does becasue we tested rambo 3 and T2 (HD DVD) with DTS HD MA on a BH200 before it croaked

So can it decode DTS-MA internally and send it as PCM over the HDMI or is it only sent as a bitstream?

You know what, I don't know, I do know it does bitstream...Last i heard it didn't decode internally, most blu players don't.

My buddy just got his BH200 back (from being sent in for warranty work), I'll ask if he'll check it for this.

The June Firmware also includes the following upgrades from the April (BH02080402F - 2008-04-02) firmware too:

1. Bonus View (BD Profile 1.1) Update
2. High Resolution Audio Support Update:
* DTS-HD 7.1Ch output via pass through
* Dolby Digital Plus 7.1Ch output via pass through
* Dolby TrueHD 7.1Ch decode & PCM output via HDMI
I'm not sure but it looks like it doesn't right now but who knows maybe it will with future firmware.
Maybe you outta pick up a receiver in NY as well.
