Default Could it be possible to Modify a HD-DVD player

Couple of idea's

1)buy a bare blue ray drive and switch it with the HD Drive in a HD-DVD player
(I think I saw a bare blue ray drive for about $140) would be a cheap way to convert to a Blue ray player.

2)Find a way to hack/mod a HD-DVD player to play Downloaded HD-Movies like .MKV files

1. Would have to program a BD-J VM and a BD+ VM (which requires access to the non-public BD+ specification or reverse-engineering a Blu Ray player's VM). And that's in addition to programming firmware for reading the Blu Ray format. Also this is assuming that the existing HD DVD hardware can handle the higher bit rates.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that.
