IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With the introduction of two new powerful desktop PCs available at retail partners nationwide, Gateway makes it easier than ever to afford and enjoy quad-core fueled gaming, entertainment and productivity based tasks.

Both the new Gateway® GM5664 and Gateway® GT5662 bring the AMD Phenom™ Processor and DirectX® 10 Technology to the GM and GT Series of desktops, turning up the performance and entertainment capabilities of each line. In addition, Gateway is introducing a new Hybrid-SuperMulti drive on the GM5664, enabling customers to watch both Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs.

“Gateway’s new retail line up marries high-performance with affordability,” said Glenn Jystad, Gateway’s senior manager of consumer desktops. “These new systems offer just about everything one could ask for in a powerful PC, delivering a great combination of features that are sure to please.”

The AMD Phenom™ Processor features extreme quad-core power for dominating the latest games, blazing through processor-intensive programs and delivering unparalleled AMD system performance, while 3GB memory delivers fast system response for effortless multitasking.

The overall system performance of both new PCs is enhanced with the addition of DirectX® 10 support with ATI Radeon™ HD 2400XT graphics featuring 256MB video memory and HDMI output. Even the most advanced gamers and digital enthusiasts will be amazed by the next-generation of graphics performance with DirectX® 10 technology. Rendering hyper-detail, shadows, texture and film-quality images, it brings a new level of realism to the most advanced games and digital video, with more detail per frame than ever before.

Gateway GM5664 Desktop – Extreme Performance for the Enthusiast

With the ability to watch live TV and breeze through the most intense media demands, the Gateway® GM Series of PCs are ideal entertainment supercenters. The ultimate PC for media-hungry users, they feature the high-performance horse power needed for playing the latest games and blazing through processor-intensive programs.

Gateway’s newest addition to the line, the GM5664 desktop, is ideal for those interested in extreme gaming, digital photo and video editing, watching TV or movies and storing a massive media library.

The new Hybrid-SuperMulti drive lets customers watch both Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs, and features burning capability on any type of DVD or CD disc. Rounding out this media supercenter is an integrated TV tuner(1) with remote control, so consumers can watch, pause and record their favorite live programming.

A 1TB hard drive(2) provides a massive amount of storage capacity for even the largest digital library and the richest media files. For added convenience, users can transfer and file digital photos with one touch using the SmartCopy button. Featuring a 400 watt power supply, this desktop is upgrade ready, with plenty of energy to spare for additional components.

The Gateway GM5664 desktop PC is available now at leading retailers for $1,149.99. Visit www.gateway.com/retail for additional information.

Gateway GT5662 Desktop – The Latest Quad-Core Power

The GT5662 includes a large 500GB hard drive(2), while a SuperMulti drive allows consumers to burn content on to DVDs or CDs. Labelflash™ technology(3) enables consumers to add a customized touch, enabling text, digital images or photos to be laser-burned directly onto their personal discs.

Isn't it great that Acer and Gateway's together now? HD DVD in computers for all, at a moderately low price!

Gateway had already offered models with either HD DVD or Blu-ray, now they have combined them so you get both. It helps the person buying the computer in they get both formats, but it also helps Gateway ( and other computer makers who offer Dual Format Drives ) in they only need to stock one drive ( the Dual Format Drive ) instead of two drives, one for each format.

I am thinking about getting this PC, or maybe the HP Slimline that has a hybrid drive for $949.00. Here's the link:

If I don't get one of those, I'll just buy a cheap desktop and a cheap laptop.
