Default region hack allows A2 to play both region 1 & 2 DVD's

Seen this over at AVS

WARNING : Be careful if you try it and be prepared in case it fails to have a brick

I did it!!!!!
OMG!! i'm having a Coronary!!
I've been trying to play PAL on my A2 for months, i've loaded E1 firmwares many times with no success.....get the msg......Cannot play PAL!

After being at 2.8 the go back hex mod wouldn't work anymore so i msg'd a fellow and he gave me a new hex key thats good till 2.9.
I applied that to a 1.6 firmware i have and loaded that, intialized after firmware install, tried a region 2 dvd, still works so the region hack stays in tack!

Then i had a E1 2.7 firmware that i installed after that.

Wala!, i went into the menu and there it was in resolution settings.....

480i/576i
up to 480p/576p
up to 720p
up to 1080i.

Popped in my PAL region 2 DVD of Vanishing Point i bought from amazon.uk and it plays beatifully!!!
I already aplied the region hack a month ago as thats always there no matter if you go back to 1.6 as the firmware is T23T which is the drive firmware.

I've done this before but i always went to a lower firmware next like 2.2 then E1 2.5 then E1 2.7.

Also i noticed if you had a lower than a 2.5 E1 firmware it would not load giving a 2007c5c2 error, this time it went thru!!

:Update i'll make use region 2.5 and make it play pal and you can go back from 2.8:

Man, that would be wonderful. Does anyone know where a walkthrough of this would be?

ok I have read over the thread at AVS and understand how this is working now. Could I PERSONALLY get it to work?
not right now because I don't have the "special user' created 2.5.1 firmware hack that makes the player's optical drive "region free."
Does this work? Apparently so--as many people at AVS have been able to replicate this. i'm sure someone else could easily get this to work on here. It simply involves applying two pieces of firmware-nothing else.
Very cool!

what it is is this

STEP 1: you get the '"old" 1.6 firmware for an E1 player and apply it to a US A2 by changing the hex values of the player identifier to match the A2 (your player is now essentially an E1)
STEP 2: you apply the "special user" firmware 2.5.1 that some engineer apparently leaked to this dude for the E1 after the hex has been modified.
STEP 3: update to E1 current 2.7 or 2.8
STEP 4: insert PAL disc and enjoy (up to 576p will now show up in menu)

the end.

I`m quite new on this forum, but for some time I was follow some threads. I`m a lucky owner of hd-a2 and I`m really desperate to play PAL discs becuse I`m living in "PAL region 2" area.
For some days I was looking for firmware 1.5 1.6 to e1 but unfortunately without success. I have found 2.5.1 on a rapidshare and that`s it. If you could help me to find fw 1.6 for e1 I`ll really appreciate it.

Finding the older Europe Firmwares is one of the problems I see in this also.

What I'm thinking is that the way to go about trying this is to join at AVS and pm the dude who has these firmware updates. I think that is certainly the most reasonable way to do it. If you read over the AVS thread it seems others have acquired the info from him via messaging since he is not going to just post the info publicly. I have a "spare" A2 that I got at the supersale at Wal-Mart that I would love to try this out on.
