Default Toshiba slashes the price of their players in Europe

We heard earlier that Toshiba in Germany/England will reduce the price of their players and now - today - have Toshiba Sweden announced pricedrops up to 50% and talking about a massive marketing campaign over here too.

"We want to protect our marketshare and itīs important for us now when Warner is about to leave HD DVD" , says Henrik Johansson, Toshiba Sweden.

So now Toshiba wanna show the moviecompanies a growing market and bigger and faster HD DVD adaptions not only in the US but also in Europe.

Link to the article, but itīs in Swedish.

Yay. Great news. The prices on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.de have already gone down to a Pioneer/Philips upscaling DVD player like pricing.

good news, although I though they should have done it last year. IMO EU studio's are more likely to stay natural or HD exclusive, and should have been actively pursued.
HD is a good choice for many reasons, doubly so for small production companies.
I'd imagine some of the small studio saw a small boot from US buyers (who never bothered with importing DVDs) importing their HD movies .

This is the second time Amazon.co.uk have lowered the price within 30 days of me ordering, so I've emailed asking for another refund of the difference (I'm entitled to it as their policy states the 30 days as above)

Great policy, No doubt! One of the reasons I'll continue to buy from the various amazons.

The article also said that pricecuts will be made all over Europe, so it seems that Germany, UK and Sweden are only the beginning.

Well I emailed last night circa 10:30pm and have had a reply this saturday morning (8:30am) saying I am going to be refunded a further Ģ30 Amazon customer service wins.

Even throughout the recent "news", I've never stopped liking HD-DVD, and now the player was/is cheaper for me I care even less about it!
