Default Yamaha htr 5940/Hd-A1 question?

Hi, I have questions about the audio set through the Hd-a1 Player and this Yamaha reciever. .I have my hdmi hooked up from the tv to the hd player. I have the analog hooked up through both players. I also have coxal and optical jacks being used for other items (dvr, xbox). The true hd and the DD+s does'nt sound that great so I think this might be hook wrong. On the hd -a1 player should the audio be pmc or bitstream? When you put a hd dvd in the player will the yamaha reciever automaticlly pick up the analog sound? Any help you can give would be great.
Thank You,
chad

I have my 5840 hooked through analog and optical/coax. For TrueHD, I switch the A1 to PCM and when I want 6.1 DTS, I switch it back to bitstream. You might think that you hooked it up wrong, but I assure you that you've done everything correct. All you gotta do is raise the volume, probably around 8-10 db. For some reason, analog connections take in audio information at a lower db, so all you need to do is raise the volume a little and enjoy the awesome sound of lossless.

Also, there are known issues with the bass management on some receivers that mean the bass sounds a little weak when using the analog outputs. My receiver included. The problem is that there isn't access to the bass management levels independently for analog and digital input, so if you calibrate for one, the other will sound wrong.
