Default HD-A2 not supported anymore?

So I bought the HD-A2 at Wal-mart for their $99 special. However, now when going to Toshiba's website it can't be found under HD-DVD players, but if you do a search you can find it under archived players. Does this mean that the A2 is no longer supported for firmware upgrades,....?

possibly. Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised, but I'm not saying I know 100% or anything. The good news is I am sure you can still download the latest update, and there are rarely any playback issues of any kind anymore no matter what FUD you may have heard.
btw; check the firmware updating thread for info.

It probably just means they aren't selling it anymore. I have an A1 and it hasn't been listed or offerred a firmware updated for about a year and I haven't had any problems playing any of the new movies on it. I'm sure if there was ever a problem a firmware update would be issued.

I was just curious. I read an article saying something along the lines of Toshiba did this to clear out most of their A2 inventory to make room for the newer models.

well Wal-Mart bought the players actually, and the reason was simple--they wanted to get people into their stores to buy other shit.
but yeah there ARE new 3rd gen models. the A2 IS discontinued as far as I know.

The A2 has not been discontinued, in fact it's still a big seller. It's hard to explain.
